Reporting to the Sohkayawin Housing Manager, the Support Worker provides support to tenants within the apartment complex. This role focuses on maintaining a safe, stable, and supportive living environment through regular check-ins, crisis response, and basic support services.
The Support Worker does not carry a caseload or provide intensive case management but plays a critical role in supporting tenant stability, safety, and overall wellbeing during non-daytime hours (hours range from 4pm-midnight; midnight to 8am, weekends, weekdays, and holidays).
Job Expectations:
Conduct regular evening and overnight wellness checks throughout the building, ensuring tenants safety and wellbeing.
Provide brief, supportive check-ins with tenants as needed, building positive and respectful relationships.
Monitor the building and respond to incidents, disturbances, or safety concerns in a timely and professional manner.
Respond to crisis situations, including mental health crises, substance use-related incidents, and conflicts between tenants, using de-escalation and trauma-informed approaches.
Perform overdose response and follow all harm reduction protocols, including naloxone administration where required.
Maintain building safety and security, including monitoring access, guest activity, and ensuring adherence to building expectations.
Accurately document all incidents, observations, and interactions in shift notes and required reporting systems.
Communicate relevant updates, concerns, and incidents to the day team to ensure continuity of care.
Support a clean and safe environment, including light tidying of common areas and reporting maintenance concerns.
Help clients prep for pest control and report maintenance concerns to landlords.
Provide in-home life skills mentoring (cleaning, cooking, grocery shopping, personal hygiene encouragement, bus routes, laundry support, guest management).
Provide transportation to appointments and programming.
