Description

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Manually sort recoverable materials e.g. metal, paper, plastic from waste.
2. Identify and sort recyclable materials by grade.
3. Identify outbound recycling materials that are acceptable for sale.
4. Monitor quality of sorted materials; report concerns.
5. Develop effective working relationships with all staff and program participants to ensure a respectful and
positive work environment is achieved.
6. Monitor belt, sort equipment and Material Handlers; report concerns to Supervisor.
7. Accurately record data.
8. Monitor and adjust belt speeds to acceptable levels.
9. Assist in training new Material Handlers.
10. Supervise program participants working on the sort belt.
11. Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
12. Participate as an active team member (communication, coverage during staff shortages etc.).  
13. Cross-train for other duties as deemed necessary.
14. Other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions:

Environment exposes workers to motion of conveyor belt and large industrial machinery
Environment may expose workers to extreme heat/cold, paper dust, chemicals, diesel fumes, unusual/strong
odors and/or contaminated materials/products; pet rabbits, birds and fish; visiting therapy animals e.g. dogs
Personal protective equipment required for various activities/tasks e.g. steel-toed boots, safety glasses/goggles,
safety vest, hearing protection etc.
May be required to work flexible work hours/days; shift work as scheduled
Must provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check prior to employment.
