Description

The Rural Municipality of Souris Valley  #7 is seeking a Seasonal Equipment Operator. Reporting to the Foreman, this position is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of municipal equipment to support road maintenance, vegetation control, and infrastructure services throughout the municipality.
This is a hands-on, multi-functional role. The primary responsibility will be operating a tractor with mower attachment for roadside vegetation management; however, the successful candidate will also assist with grading and other public works activities as required. Training will be provided for the right candidate.

Duties and Responsibilities:
    Operate a tractor with mower attachment for roadside ditch mowing and vegetation control
    Operate a motor grader for road maintenance activities such as grading, shaping, crowning, and leveling (as required)
    Assist with the operation of other municipal equipment (tractor, loader, backhoe, etc.)
    Perform daily pre- and post-operational inspections and routine equipment maintenance
    Conduct minor repairs and adjustments to ensure safe and efficient operation
    Maintain ditches and drainage systems to support proper water flow
    Identify and report hazards, obstructions, and maintenance concerns along roadways
    Assist with additional Public Works activities including culvert installation, signage and general labour tasks
    Adhere to all occupational health and safety regulations, policies, and procedures

Qualifications:
    Experience operating tractors, mowers, graders, or other heavy equipment is preferred
    Road maintenance or agricultural equipment experience is considered an asset, willingness to learn and be trained on various types of equipment
    Mechanical aptitude and ability to perform basic servicing and maintenance
    Strong commitment to workplace safety and safe operation practices
    Ability to work independently and as part of a team
    Effective communication and organizational skills
