Description

DVCCW provides support, info & referrals to victims of Intimate Partner Violence (IPV), attends court, prepares risk assessments, contributes to decisions regarding no-contact orders. This position reports to the DVCCW Supervisor, under the direction of the Director of Programs.

Provide victim services for the DVC including work with the Court, Probation, SVS, Crown Prosecutors office, Court officials, SPS, & community agencies
Monitor/address safety concerns identified by/related to the victim
Attend docket & trial courts in the DVC; provide court updates to clients
Prepare risk assessments; consult with other agencies re: recommendations for changes to court-ordered release conditions
Liaise between victim & police, prosecutor, DVC, & other agencies
Adhere to reporting requirements regarding child protection
Participate in agency program development, public education, meetings
Perform related administrative & record-keeping duties
Assist with supervision of peers, students & individual cases
May be required to perform work outside of regular operating hours, incl. evenings &/or weekends
Other duties as assigned

Degree in Social Work (BSW/BISW), Human Justice or equivalent
3-5 years of experience working in a court environment or related area
Knowledge of the dynamics of IPV & experience working with victims

Theories of human development, behaviour, & change; & of communication & conflict resolution
Interviewing, assessment, & evaluation techniques
Knowledge of & experience in trauma- & violence-informed approaches
Able to work in cross-cultural environments
Awareness of addictions, mental health concerns, FASD, etc. & influence/impact on individuals impacted by IPV
Able to deal with difficult people in unusual/challenging situations
Effective caseload management & organizational skills
