Summer Student JobA large portion of time will be spent monitoring priority waters across the province for Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS). Tasks include larval Zebra/Quagga mussel monitoring through the collection of water samples, preparation of samples for analysis, inspection, and decontamination of sampling gear/equipment between sampling events. Adult Invasive Mussel Monitoring surveys, including inspection of docks, shorelines, and rocks at sample sites. Informal public outreach and education regarding the risk of aquatic invasive species spread and steps the public can take to reduce the risk to provincial waterbodies.
Field work tasks include carrying and maintaining equipment, collecting and recording data, sample collection and transportation, handling fish and invertebrates, and more. Field work may take place in remote areas that could require: boating or ATV access, sampling in adverse or varying weather conditions, flexible hours, and travel that includes overnight stays, etc.
Data management including recording in the field and inputting in excel. Sample management including preparation, labeling, storage, sending, and receiving.
Support the organization, cleaning, and maintenance of fisheries equipment, boats, trailers, and storage spaces.
