Saskatoon Public Schools requires Educational Assistants Hearing Loss to support students who are deaf or hard of hearing in accessing educational programming, communication, and meaningful participation in school life. Positions are available on a full-time, part-time, and casual basis.
Key Responsibilities
Educational Assistants work under the direction of classroom teachers and specialized staff and collaborate with interdisciplinary school teams. They support students in achieving goals identified in Individualized Program Plans (IPPs) while promoting independence, engagement, and safety.
A core responsibility of this role is providing consistent communication access. This includes supporting classroom instruction, peer interactions, and school activities using American Sign Language (ASL), Signed English, visual supports, and assistive listening technology, as appropriate.
Educational Assistants help prepare and use accessible instructional materials and may support students with assistive hearing technologies such as FM or sound-field systems.
Student Support and Safety
Duties may include assisting students with personal care needs, mobility, transportation, and medical needs, following established care plans and safety procedures. Educational Assistants promote positive behaviour, independence, and social interaction, responding calmly and professionally to challenging behaviours using approved strategies.
Educational Assistants provide active supervision during instructional and non-instructional times, including playgrounds, hallways, lunch periods, bus loading and unloading, and field trips, ensuring student safety at all times.
