EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNUTY
PASTURE RIDER(S) SEASONAL TERM
MGBHLM First Nation is seeking experienced Pasture Rider(s) for the 2026 grazing season. The ideal candidates(s) will have the ability to work independently and will report directly to the Lands Coordinator. As a Pasture Rider you will play a vital role in the daily care and management of of our livestock, ensuring their health, safety and well-being
ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Monitoring and controlling cattle;
Daily Log of cattle received and dates of release;
Must be able to ride and rope, a strong work ethic is required;
Care for the health of patron cattle while in the pasture;
Handle cattle, including roping from horseback;
Monitor feed and water levels for livestock in the pasture and report findings to the Buffalo Paddock Supervisor daily;
Returning livestock to owner for removal from pasture as directed by the pasture manager;
Record tag numbers for the death loss records.
Record tag number of sick cows;
Perform repairs and maintenance on pasture corrals, fences, buildings and equipment;
Operate heavy equipment such as tractors, balers, post pounders and cattle oilers;
Be available for emergency calls (ie: cattle that are out of pastures in high traffic areas);
Duties will include but are not limited to checking and repairing fence, moving herds, salting;
Picking up supplies as needed;
Any other duties as directed.
MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS
*Proven experience working with cattle;
*Ability to detect illness and ability to doctor cattle is a must;
*Rider is expected to have their own horse and tack;
*Rider must have horsemanship/livestock skills;
*Class 5 drivers license;
*Reliable vehicle.
