Description

The File Hills Qu'Appelle Tribal Council (FHQTC), on behalf of Okanese First Nation, invites applications for a passionate and committed Elementary Teacher for Kindergarten to Grade 3 at the Okanese Learning Centre. This is a unique opportunity to be part of a transformative education initiative as the Okanese First Nation re-opens its community school, grounded in First Nations culture, language, and ways of knowing.

This full-time term position will begin August, 2026, offering the chance to help shape a culturally relevant, land-based, and student-focused learning environment in a supportive and inspiring setting.


    Plan and deliver curriculum-aligned lessons for kindergarten to Grade 3 students, integrating First Nations culture, history, and language.
    Create a safe, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment that supports students success and well-being.
    Collaborate with school leadership, FHQTC education staff, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and the community to reflect traditional knowledge in teaching practices.
    Participate in professional development and school-based planning aligned with the Okanese Lifelong Learning Model.
    Monitor and assess student progress and maintain accurate records.
    Contributes to a team culture that promotes respect, responsibility, and a love for learning.


    Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) and valid Saskatchewan teaching certification.
    Clear Criminal Record Check and be in good standing with SPTRB.
    Demonstrated experience in early childhood or primary education preferred.
    Knowledge of or willingness to learn First Nations ways of knowing and teaching.
    Experience working in First Nations communities or with Indigenous students is an asset.
    Strong communication, collaboration, and classroom management skills.
    Commitment to culturally responsive education and student-centered learning.
