The City of Melville is seeking an Accounting Clerk for utility billing. Reporting to the Finance Manager, this position is responsible for utility billing functions and related accounting duties in accordance with Public Sector Accounting Principles.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, adaptable, efficient, and able to work independently and collaboratively while maintaining confidentiality.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
-Maintain utility meter deposit records
-Monitor customer consumption and prepare estimated readings
-Create, update, and terminate utility accounts
-Prepare and enter utility bill readings after meter readings are completed
-Verify valid readings for all utility accounts
-Schedule disconnections, connections, transfers, and repairs
-Calculate, print, sort, mail, and email monthly utility bills
-Respond to customer inquiries and manage overdue accounts
-Issue delinquent notices and red tags
-Transfer unpaid balances to property taxes or collections
-Balance and post utility accounts to the general ledger
-Track and reconcile utility deposits
-Provide cash receipting coverage when required
-Assist with answering and directing telephone calls
-Perform general office duties including typing, filing, and photocopying
-Complete other related duties as assigned.
