Position Summary:
The Community Health Nurse (CHN) position is part of a multidisciplinary team that provides client focused, family centered care, to individual's families and communities of BRT6HC. The CHN shall apply knowledge, skills and professional judgement as it relates to health education, health promotion, prevention and screening. As directed by the Medical Health Officer (MHO) of Indigenous Services of Canada (ISC), the Public Health model and concepts of primary health services, the CHN utilizes the nursing process by assessing health needs, epidemiological data, identifying clients needs and establishes a plan of care for individuals, families, and communities in the areas of Communicable Disease Control, Maternal/Child Health, and School Health.
Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Nursing
Registered Nurse in good standing (or eligible to become registered) with the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan
Minimum 2 years in community health nursing experience in First Nations community an asset.
Good understanding of population health principles and concepts
Must be able to work as an effective team member and to work independently, in a self-motivated manner.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Willingness to travel and possession of a valid Class 5 driver's license, work flexible hours, possibility of some evenings and weekends.
Previous working experience with First Nations people and demonstrate an understanding of the health & social issues encountered by First Nation people.
Willingness to learn about and accept First Nations cultures. Knowledge of Plains Cree Language is a definite asset.
Must provide a clear criminal record check with vulnerable sector.
Advanced knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel) Publisher, and technological platforms such as Microsoft Teams, etc.
