Description

The Boar Technician is responsible to the Unit Manager for meeting specific targets within required quality standards.

General Responsibilities
Moving the boars within the main unit, quarantine unit, as well as between the units, including cull shipments.
Training boars ensuring the animal will contribute to efficient and smooth production.
Ensuring collecting schedules are current and that the Unit Manager is informed of any changes.
Ensuring collecting practices are safe and in keeping with all the requirements expected by law, CFIA, and the Companys expectations and objectives.
Ensuring all animals are treated with respect to the Animal Welfare Code of Practice and any regulatory requirements.
Ensuring accurate timely reporting & document completion to comply with CQA/company requirements
Reporting low inventory levels on feed and any raw materials used in production to the Unit Manger.
Monitoring animal health and administering timely treatments while following treatment protocols.
Monitoring ventilation systems and environmental controls, and adjust as directed by the Unit Manger.
Ensuring accurate feeding and watering of all the animals.
Responsible to participate in staff meetings and training
Identifying and reporting any maintenance required of equipment and building to the Unit Manager.
Assisting and/or performing any necessary repairs and preventative maintenance as well as any upkeep of building and unit grounds.
Performing scheduled weekend work routines and being on call for emergency duties.
Ensuring proper use of equipment and safety policies are followed.
Ensuring Procedure Manuals, biosecurity, and safety is continuously followed
Reporting safety concerns to the safety representative and/or Unit Manager.
Other duties as assigned

Education/Experience Required
Drivers license required
High school diploma preferred
Prior experience in a hog barn preferred
