Description

JOB SUMMARY
Chief Payepot School is seeking a dedicated Cree Language Instructor to lead Cree language instruction across grade levels and support language revival and cultural continuity. Priority will be given to fluent community language speakers. The successful candidate will develop and deliver culturally responsive Cree language programming, collaborate with Elders and staff, and support integration of language and culture throughout the school.

Key Responsibilities
    Develop and deliver Cree language curriculum and lessons for PreK12 students, adjusted for age and proficiency levels.
    Prioritize immersion, oral language development, and culturally relevant practices that support language revitalization.
    Work closely with Elders, community language speakers, and families to ensure authentic language instruction and cultural connection.
    Support classroom teachers to integrate Cree language and culturally responsive practices into subject teaching.
    Assess student language progress, maintain records, and report on outcomes to school leadership and families.
    Organize and participate in cultural events, language activities, and community language initiatives.
    Provide mentorship and professional learning for staff in language pedagogy and culturally sustaining approaches.  
    Contribute to school routines, safety, and policy implementation as required.
