The Creating Opportunities Strategy is targeted to low income individuals facing barriers to education and employment. Participants gain 6 months of work experience at the Saskatoon Food Bank & Learning Centre. The program also includes training opportunities, workshops and one-on-one career counseling.
Job duties:
Provide daily coaching for participants
Assist participants with job readiness skills, overcoming barriers, job search strategies, revising resumes and preparing for job interviews
Develop and facilitate group workshops
Maintain communication with work placement supervisors
Identify adaptations to support the pursuit of goals for participants (appropriate employment supports, training opportunities, and modifications to the program structure)
Connect participants to community resources
Assist with the maintenance of records as required for reporting purposes
Qualifications and Special Skills:
Experience working with marginalized populations
Cross-cultural awareness and understanding
Post-secondary degree in Social Sciences, or equivalent knowledge and experience
Experience with adult learners is preferred
Highly adaptable and flexible. This position is best suited to someone who enjoys working in a dynamic, ever changing environment. Daily and weekly job tasks are often unpredictable and are determined by the immediate needs of the participants.
