The Saskatchewan Association of Rural Municipalities (SARM) is seeking a highly motivated individual with above average problem solving, analytical and communication skills to fill a position as Senior Community Planner.
Main Responsibilities
Preparation and review of planning and development proposals, bylaws and amendments to planning bylaws;
Providing advice to member municipalities on issues related to land use and community planning;
Lead and participate in the community consultation processes to identify issues affecting community development that will lead to a community consensus on strategies for managing development and resolving planning issues;
Research policy and undertake analysis of federal/provincial activities and legislation affecting rural municipal authority; and
Provide leadership and direction to department staff on issues related to land use planning.
Skills and Knowledge
Professional community planning principles, legislation and processes as they relate to the preparation of land use plans;
Facilitation, mediation and negotiation techniques;
Economic, geographic, cultural and social issues and trends related to planning and development in the province;
Knowledge and experience with GIS software;
Verbal and written communication skills with the ability to convey complex and technical information in an understandable manner; and
Public presentations.
Candidates must clearly describe where they have gained the knowledge and demonstrated the abilities required.
The successful candidate will possess a degree in planning or a related field, combined with at least two years of land use planning experience at a provincial or municipal level. You must possess full membership (RPP) in the Saskatchewan Professional Planners Institute (or equivalent full membership) and the Canadian Institute of Planners.

- Confer with appropriate authorities and interest groups to formulate and develop land use or community plans
