Description

The Lower Souris Watershed Committee (LSWC) is seeking a professional Watershed Technician.  Applicants must be 30 years old or younger and have completed a post-secondary education. A focus on agricultural science, natural resource management, environmental engineering, environmental studies, biology or a related field is an asset.

The successful applicant will be responsible for the planning, development and implementation of Watershed programs. Special focus will be placed on the Lower Souris Watershed Committees Qualified Persons (QP) role. The Technician will work alongside other Watershed staff and work under the direction of the Watershed Manager

Qualified Persons assist in agricultural drainage planning and damage assessment and assist with responsible drainage works design.  QPs are persons that can focus on the complexities and follow through with the permit application process while coordinating the interests of those involved. Successful applicants will coordinate between landowners and regulators, apply standard drainage works design, and assist with the completion of associated paperwork.

The successful candidate will also work in all other areas of Watershed Stewardship Group operation. This includes, but is not limited to, public education programs, Agricultural Beneficial Management Practices (BMP) implementation, Ag Plastics Recycling, Source Water Development, Water Well Decommissioning, and Water Monitoring.

The successful candidate will possess skills required to work independently and as a team player. They should also possess superior oral and written communications skills. GIS experience is an asset. All applicants must possess a valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle. Experience is an asset however training will be provided.
