Description

The Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultural Studies at the University of Saskatchewan invites applications for a full time tenure-track position in French Studies at the rank of Assistant Professor effective July 1, 2018. The successful candidate will teach courses at various levels of French language as well as senior courses in their area of specialization, will be expected to supervise graduate students, initiate and participate in research projects, compete successfully for external funding, contribute to the scholarly and artistic work of the department and undertake relevant administrative activities, including meetings and committee work. The Department comprises French, Spanish and German, and is housed in the College of Arts & Science which offers a dynamic combination of programs in the Humanities and Fine Arts, the Social Sciences and the Sciences. The College emphasizes student and faculty research, scholarly and artistic work, interdisciplinary programs, community outreach and international opportunities. Successful candidates will have native or near-native proficiency in French and English, an ability to engage in scholarly activities as evidenced by established or developing research initiatives, a strong or emerging research program, and a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching French classes at various levels. A Ph.D. in French (or an equivalent qualification) is required. The ideal candidate will have a research focus in an area of Cultural Studies in French (film studies, critical theory, postcolonial literature, popular culture, media or technology, etc.) or specialize in the Didactics of French as a Second Language.
