The successful applicant will join one of our project teams defining, designing, & testing high-availability, software-based systems for the satellite communications industry, primarily in the ground segment. Some of these will be real-time systems that perform functions such as stream encoding, encapsulation, encryption, multiplexing, & modulation. Other applications include resource management, subscriber management & automation. The work often entails development of mathematical models & algorithms to solve over-constrained problems such as real-time allocation of satellite resources (e.g. power, spectrum, signal paths) in a way that maximizes disparate business objectives (e.g. throughput, efficiency). Most systems also include a sophisticated graphical user interface.
System engineers/designers are typically involved in all phases of projects including requirements capture, requirements analysis, system design, verification testing, & installation.
This position will be of interest to candidates with a bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Engineering Physics. Applicants must have good oral & written communications skills & be willing to travel.
Proficiency in the following areas is an asset:
Linux systems
Database technologies (mySQL, PostGres)
Confluence & JIRA
Programming languages (C, C++, Java, Python, Bash, HTML, CSS, Javascript, Matlab)
Network design & operation including architectures & protocols, routers & firewalls, diagnostic tools, security & admission control, & traffic models & measurement techniques
Statistical methods (e.g. for reliability & quality of service analyses)
RF test & measurement equipment
The ability to meet the eligibility requirements outlined in the Canadian Controlled Goods Program is mandatory. Thank you for your interest in SED. Candidates who are selected for interviews will be contacted.
