Grasslands News Group, publisher of The Melville Advance and The Fort QuAppelle Times, is seeking reporter/photographers eager to work in a regional newsroom environment. There is lots of opportunity to grow with this young company that also publishes the Whitewood Herald Sun.

Ideally, the successful candidates would have weekly newspaper experience, but we are willing to work with and train a recent journalism school grad who wants to work in the community press in east-central Saskatchewan.

The successful applicants will have strong writing and digital photography skills, and the ability to manage news coverage independently and by assignment with the editor.

The applicants must have a working knowledge of Macintosh publishing programs, especially Microsoft Word and Adobe Photoshop. Page design experience is a definite asset. Canon digital camera gear provided. Company car available for work travel. Good knowledge of CP style is essential.
The beat will include but will not be limited to: coverage of local government, community sports, education and health issues, and people.

The successful candidates will work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.

Melville is a community of 4,600 30 minutes southwest of Yorkton. Fort QuAppelle is a community of 2,000 45 minutes southwest of Melville and 45 minutes east of Regina.

Grasslands News Group publications are consistently judged to be among the best in Saskatchewan.
