Description

The Hatchet Lake Band Store serves a population of 2000 at Wollaston Lake, SK. It is owned and operated by the Hatchet Lake Development Limited Partnership, the economic development arm of the Hatchet Lake Denesuline First Nation.

The store operates from a 12,000 sq. ft. facility first opened in June, 2011. Operations include groceries, gas bar, convenience store, bakery (bake off), meat department, lumber, hardware, and a limited line of clothing, furniture and appliances, and a motel.

Duties: The Assistant Manager will support the Store Manager to:
    Plan, direct, and evaluate the daily operation of the store and motel
    Recruit, manage and professionally develop a staff of approximately 35 people
    Determine merchandise to be sold, negotiate with suppliers, and arrange transportation
    Plan budgets, determine pricing, monitor income and expenses, evaluate and report results
    Implement and maintain health and safety, personnel, environmental, and other policies
    Oversee cash management and handling processes
    Maintain a high level of customer service and resolve customer complaints

Qualifications:
    Previous successful retail experience, preferably in a Northern environment
    Language, numeracy, and computer literacy
    Ability to maintain focus in a fast paced environment
    Ability to communicate with staff, community members, and suppliers
    Dene language skills an asset

Work Situation:
    Northern location with air and seasonal road access
    Work rotation in co-ordination with the Store Manager
    Accommodation options include motel accommodation and transportation to an outside location, or subsidized housing in the community

Compensation:
    Commensurate with experience and qualification
