Reporting to the Exec. Director, the Provincial S.O. is responsible for all assessing the needs of all Veterans, and guiding them to the proper resources.
Main responsibilities:
Meet with Veterans to assess their needs
Liaise with branches to assist with local Veterans
Effective management of claims submitted to VAC
Process Poppy Fund, Veteran Plate, and Benevolent Claim Applications
Plan and deliver training and mentoring to Branch S.O.
Participate ex-officio on Provincial Command Committees and Council
Providing statistical reports and liaising with Dominion Command Service Bureau
Knowledge/Skills:
Develop knowledge and stay informed of any and all benefits available for Veterans.
Positive attitude, professional, respectful, empathetic and compassionate
Knowledge or experience in handling Mental Health issues
Independent, Proactive, dependable, and detail oriented
Excellent organizational and communications skills
Build upon the network of other organizations, business and Service Officers in other provinces
Ensure confidentiality and privacy in regards to client information
Knowledge of the New Veterans Charter (NVC) and Veterans Pension Act
Attend S.O. Professional Development arranged by the Dominion Command Service Bureau
Able to present to and and/or train large groups
Must be adept in use of computers
Security Clearance through VAC is a requirement. A current drivers license and vehicle is required.
Relevant educational background partnered with five to ten years experience in a leadership and or supervisory position. An equivalent of education and experience will be considered. Preference will be given to those who have served in the RCMP or Canadian Armed Forces. Experience in Non-Profit Organizations such as The Royal Canadian Legion would be an asset.
