Description

Saskatchewan Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services is looking for a computerized note-taker to join our freelance team.The computerized note-taker provides communication support to deaf and hard of hearing members of the community.The primary responsibility is to provide a high quality concise summary of the classroom lecture, meeting or event, in a style which matches the consumers preference for point form, summary or a more comprehensive note-taking style. Adequate preparation and consumer relations are critical to the position. Computerized note-takers should have experience working with deaf and hard of hearing individuals, be skilled typists, be familiar with strategies to condense information and provide in depth notes. They will abide by the policies and procedures of the organization.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Note-taking during the number of hours required by the consumer
Prepare for assignment by reviewing any prep materials given to promote understanding of any technical or specialized vocabulary
Use strategies for obtaining information as needed i.e. request speaker to repeat, spell or explain information
Relay important non-verbal information
Transmit all information in the style preferred by the consumer
Utilize feedback to assess the effectiveness of note-taking and adjust accordingly for inclusion of contextual information and necessary editing for readability
Be aware of confidentiality issues related to providing note-taking services to consumers
Ensure equipment is properly set up
Assist in resolution of technical problems related to note-taking
Keep an accurate record of hours of service
Qualifications:
Demonstrated ability to condense spoken information and record key points
Ability to distinguish between a variety of voices and accents
Familiarity with advanced word processing
Ability to work alone or with a team
Experience working as a computerized note-taker is an asset
Demonstrated typing speed of 70+ words per minute
