Overview
The Saskatchewan Research Councils (SRC) Environment Division is seeking a Junior Environmental Field Assistant to join the Environmental Remediation Business Unit. The Environmental Field Assistant will participate in Project CLEANS activities. This is a multi-year, multimillion-dollar project for the assessment and remediation of abandoned uranium mine sites in northern Saskatchewan. This is a summer student position.
Accountabilities
Participate in field activities to support the assessment and remediation of abandoned uranium mines in northern Saskatchewan
Assist with environmental sampling (soil, surface water, ground water, waste rock)
Assist with environmental data management, analysis and interpretation
Participate in report preparation
Assist in community engagement programs and other activities
Qualifications
Proficient in Microsoft Office including Excel and Word
Experience working in an environment-related field
Experience with field work is an asset
Experience working in remote regions is an asset
Skills
Good understanding of safety and quality
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Self-motivated and able to take initiative
Team player with excellent interpersonal, problem solving, verbal and written communication skills
Valid drivers license
Requirements
Work in remote, radiation-impacted abandoned mine sites in northern Saskatchewan
Travel for up to two weeks at a time
Travel by small aircraft, boat and all-terrain vehicles
Walk in forested rugged terrain with 20 lbs (10 kg) backpack for up to 10 hours per day
Work extended hours (up to 12 hours per day) while in the field
Applicants must be currently enrolled in environment-related post-secondary school program and returning to full-time studies in the fall.
