Overview
The Saskatchewan Research Councils (SRC) Environment Division is seeking an Environmental Specialist or Engineer to participate in the assessment and remediation of abandoned uranium mines in northern Saskatchewan. This is expected to be a one-year term position starting March 2018.
Accountabilities
Ensure environmental compliance
Assist in preparation of technical documentation to obtain regulatory approvals
Plan and implement environmental monitoring, revegetation, site inspections and other field activities
Manage and execute hazardous materials and waste management (including spill response)
Develop and review various documents
Support environmental data management
Plan and oversee contractors activities
Qualifications
University degree in environmental science or environmental engineering
A minimum of three years of work experience in an environment-related field
Experience in environmental sampling, data analysis and interpretation
Experience in environmental management legislation, regulations and policies
Experience in one of the following areas is an asset:
o Phase I, II and Phase III environmental site assessments and site remediation
o Hazardous material and waste management
o Environmental monitoring
o Revegetation and land reclamation
P.Eng. or PAg certification is an asset
Skills
Excellent technical writing skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Good understanding of safe work and quality control
Self-motivated, proactive and able to multi-task
Well organized and detail oriented
Requirements
Some travel to remote, radiation-impacted abandoned mine sites in northern Saskatchewan
Travel by small aircraft, boat, and all-terrain vehicles
Walk in forested rugged terrain with 20 lbs (10 kg) backpack for up to 10 hours per day
Work extended hours (up to 12 hours per day) while in the field
