Reporting to the Facilities Manager, the Head Custodian is responsible for the maintenance, repair, cleaning and adjustment of all building systems and the general maintenance of the facility. Working with other custodial staff, he/she will ensure that the facility is clean, safe and presentable.
The Head Custodian is also responsible for event setup in the Banquet Hall and meeting rooms, ensuring that proper preparations have been carried out for all scheduled activities. The individual will oversee the cathedral grounds, doing some yard work and light snow clearing, conduct tool and equipment maintenance and other duties as required.
The Head Custodian is an integral member of the staff team. They are to conduct themselves in a courteous and professional manner in dealing with other staff, volunteers and the public. They must also demonstrate appropriate respect for the sacred elements within the building. The Head Custodian must be self-reliant and able to plan their daily work schedule around various events taking place in the facility. They must also be adaptable and be able to accommodate sudden changes in the schedule.

Requirements:
-3 to 5 years experience as a caretaker/building operator in an institutional setting (e.g., school, hospital, convention centre etc.)
-A working knowledge of plumbing, electrical and HVAC systems
-5th Class Power Engineer certification required.
-Lift Operator certificate and additional certifications would be an asset
-Demonstrated task-related problem-solving and decision-making skills
-Demonstrated ability to carry out tasks related to cleaning, moving items and doing maintenance work for sustained periods-of-time
-Must have the ability to follow complex written and verbal instructions in English
-Basic working knowledge of Microsoft programs
