Restaurant Servers are part of a team responsible for the general operation of the restaurant. This includes preparing the dining room for meals, taking customer orders, preparing bills and processing payments, helping the kitchen staff with dishwashing, cleaning the dining room and servers' areas of the kitchen and balancing daily financial transactions. Restaurant servers are also responsible for assisting in the set up of catering events and serving at the events. Restaurant servers must demonstrate exceptional professionalism, customer service and guest relation skills.
Food and Beverage Serving Skills
- Serve food and beverages, general plate service
- Present bills to customers and accept payment in cash, credit or debit cards, travellers cheques or room billings
- Describe menu items including daily specials for customers
Wine and Stewarding/Serving Skills
- Store wines
- Present, open, pour and serve wine in appropriate wine glassware
- Order and maintain inventory of wines and wine glassware
