Description

The Community Services Division is accepting applications for a Community Recreation Coordinator. This is a permanent full-time out of scope position.   Reporting to the Events and Program Manager this position is responsible for community planning and development, partnerships, promotions and grant writing. In addition, will assist in the recruitment, training and management of program staff associated with our recreation programs.  This position may be required to work evenings and weekends.  

The fundamental aim of the Community Recreation Coordinator is to increase opportunities and participation related to recreation in our community with an element of focus on target groups such as seniors, youth at risk and visible minorities.

Basic Requirements:

Grade Twelve Education and Related Post-Secondary education (Recreation, Leisure, Health, Business, Education based Diploma/Degree)  
Must be Safe Places  Youth Certified
Hold a valid Drivers License
Physically able to participate in recreation programs;
Thorough knowledge and experience of program design concepts and communication marketing strategies;
Knowledge of program development  planning, implementing, evaluating and program delivery skills;
Strong interpersonal communication skills, including ability to deal effectively with staff, community groups, youth and the public;
Ability to speak to large audiences, small groups and to people of all ages;
Problem solving and using responsible judgment, imagination and innovation for the success of community recreation programs;
Leadership skills for staff and program participants;
Knowledge of policy and procedure development;
Knowledge and experience in writing grants; and
Must have initiative, time management and organizational skills.
