Students will be directly supervised and mentored by the Town Foreman. The students will have an opportunity to learn many duties related to a public works operation of an urban municipality including operation of a public utility, maintenance of grounds on town owned property, street repair and maintenance duties such as sidewalk, street/road repair, garbage collection/disposal, other duties as assigned.
The employer will receive assistance in targeted areas where there is not enough time for regular employees to address the required tasks.
Under the general direction of the Town Foreman, the Public Works Assistant/Summer Student is accountable for carrying out all assigned duties within the Public Works Department.
Qualifications:
Valid Class 5 Saskatchewan Driver License
Attending an Accredited School in the Fall
Previous experience in the operation of motorized mechanical equipment including tractors, mowers and one ton or larger trucks is an asset
Skills and Abilities:
Physically fit and able to perform manual tasks/heavy labour
Ability to work with others in a team environment and to conduct business in a professional manner
Ability to complete tasks in a safe and effective manner
Good organizational skills
Ability to accept, comprehend and carry out verbal and written instructions
Ability to work independently and in a team environment
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Duties and Responsibilities:
Street and sidewalk repair and maintenance
Garbage collection and disposal
Maintenance of grounds on town owned property including cutting grass, weeding & pruning trees
Miscellaneous painting;
Other related duties as assigned;
Credentials (certificates, licences, memberships, courses, etc.)
