Job Description: The successful incumbent will work along-side Public Health Nursing to assess breastfeeding and identify concerns and work with clients to create a plan of care.  This includes communication with clients physician, nursing care team (Hospital, PHN, NP) or other as appropriate through.  This position also develops, and delivers breastfeeding continuing education which is essential through breastfeeding and prenatal classes, and community presentations.  

Advocating to provide evidence-based breastfeeding information and support that meets the requirements of the World Health Organization Code for Marketing of Breastmilk Substitutes, and the Baby Friendly Initiative as supported by the Saskatchewan Health Authority is a priority.

The Lactation Consultant also tracks statistics on clients seen, nature of concern, referral source and position workload; and communicate to Supervisor of Public Health Nursing.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor Degree/Diploma in Nursing
International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) certification
Registered or eligible for registration with the Saskatchewan Registered Nurses Association (SRNA)

Must be able to travel and/or have access to travel

80.00 hours per 8 week rotation: 16 shifts of 5.00 hours
