The Education Outreach Consultant -Indigenous Resource Developer will be employed by the Saskatchewan Mining Association (SMA) and work in collaboration with the Saskatoon Tribal Council (STC), Education Unit, with guidance from the SMA Ed Outreach Consultant to:
Indigenize identified lesson plans by incorporating traditional knowledge and teaching methodologies into SMA lesson plans including connecting learning experiences to the land and communities;
Pilot indigenized lesson plans at camps and workshops with educators and students
Create a series of role model posters and career cards profiling the diversity of Saskatchewan mining employees
Identification of "knowledge keepers"
Manage program feedback
Assemble, distribute and track supplies and equipment to communities
Undertake additional program and administration duties as assigned
Manage program budget and prepare quarterly progress reports
Essential Qualifications:
Bachelor of Education degree with experience and strong understanding of science.
Knowledge of Indigenous ways of learning
Valid Class 5 Saskatchewan drivers license or equivalent
Must possess or be in the process of obtaining criminal record check
Ability to move equipment and supplies weighing 20 kilograms
Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher and Social Media
Other Qualifications:
Prior experience in developing educational programs with Indigenous people/communities
Able to work under independently and develop new ideas
Demonstrated experience working with groups of youth and adults in workshops
Available to travel up to one week per month (or equivalent)
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Ability to speak First Nations language is an asset,
Preference will be given to qualified, self-identified indigenous applicants.
