Job Description: The Nurse Navigator for the Trauma Program is an experienced clinical practitioner (in emergency and surgical care of trauma patients) who integrates experience, skills and knowledge from nursing theory and principles of adult learning in the provision and management of direct patient, assessment of needs, clinical problem solving, and patient/staff education for a defined population and program. The incumbent will contribute to the coordination of care for the trauma patient. Development of knowledge and improvement of practice for the trauma population will be accomplished through the provision of clinical coordination, demonstration of leadership and implementation and application of best practices. Establishes and maintain formal linkages and working relationships between regional trauma services and the other provincial injury control components, EMS (emergency medical services) EPP (emergency preparedness)
Integrates, communicates, and participates with trauma liaisons for the disciplines participating in care from injury through to rehabilitation;

This comprehensive program care is provided utilizing a systems approach and consistent collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.  

Other more specific responsibilities may include participating in policy and procedure development, data analysis, monitoring standards of practice, planning, developing, implementing and maintaining quality improvement initiatives. There may be a component of research for this population.
Required Qualifications

Bachelor Degree/Diploma in Nursing
Basic Life Support (BLS)
Registered or eligible for registration with the Saskatchewan Registered Nurses Association (SRNA)
International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) or Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNC
