Description

Primary purpose:
To support settlement and integration of newcomers to Prince Albert through delivery front line services.

Job Summary:  
The Settlement Counsellor Worker performs all tasks as requested by the Program Manager and collaborates with the Settlement Team to plan and implement appropriate client programming as well as any promotional activities.

Primary Responsibilities:
-Welcome and assist refugee and immigrant clients with immediate needs
-Meet and Greet Government Assisted Refugee clients at airport
-Arrange temporary and permanent accommodation for GARs; assist GARs in moving into permanent accommodations
-Assess settlement needs of newcomers and assist in developing settlement plan
-Help GARs tend to any critical medical needs
Link clients to mandatory federal and provincial programs
-Help with financial orientation, including banking appointments, budgeting and other life skills related to finances
-Help link to community resources
-Life skills coaching, including bus and city service orientation
-Provide solution focused counselling for individuals
-Statistical data collection and reporting

Preferred Education/Experience:
4 year undergraduate degree in human services related field
Fluency in Arabic or Tigrinya or other language spoken by clientele is a definite asset
Experience in the human services field an asset
Experience working with culturally diverse individuals
Exceptional communication abilities; written, verbal and non-verbal
Standard computer skills necessary
Ability to work some flexible hours (occasional evening and weekend)
Must have valid drivers licence and access to a vehicle
Must pass YWCA Security clearance
Must be able to work independently with little supervision

Required Licenses and/or certificates:
Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check
Valid class 5 Saskatchewan drivers license and access to a reliable vehicle
