JOB DESCRIPTION  Construction Manager

Reporting to the Vice President of Commercial Construction, the Construction Manager oversees all aspects of the building process, from design to client handover. The Construction Manager is an integral role in the execution of successful projects working closely with architects and engineers, developing and monitoring budgets and schedules, negotiating with and hiring subcontractors, scheduling work on the site, securing appropriate permits, and ensuring that projects are completed with a focus on safety, quality, and timeliness.

Duties & Responsibilities

Specific duties and responsibilities of the Construction Manager include, but are not limited to the following:

- Establishing and overseeing the schedule, specification and budget for projects
- Preparing and submitting construction budgets and schedules in advance of each project
- Preparing contracts and negotiating revisions with consultants, clients, suppliers and subcontractors
- Overseeing the procurement of construction materials for each project under management
- Awarding contracts to subcontractors and hire on site construction staff
- Reviewing budgets and schedules as projects progress and reporting to senior management and clients as required
- Monitoring project milestones and progress against established schedules
- Ensuring the safety of all those on a job site, both employees and subcontractors, adhering to and enforcing all safety protocols
- Monitoring the quality of workmanship and contract completion by subcontractors
- Ensuring that projects are handed over on time, on budget and to the expectation of clients

Education and Experience

To ensure projects are completed to a professional standard, the following education and experience requirements are preferred:

A university degree in civil engineering or a college diploma in construction technology
3 or more years of experience managing a variety of construction project
