Description

Reporting to the Program Coordinator assigned to Adult Basic Education, the Essential Skills Facilitator is responsible for facilitating learning opportunities for students in the area of fundamental life/work skills.  The Essential Skills Facilitator will create opportunities for students to discuss problems they may be experiencing; strategies for dealing with these problems, and if necessary, refer the student to other service providers for assistance.  

The facilitator will empower students to take control of their situation in areas such as relationships, time management, stress management, budgeting, accountability, school-life balance, healthy living, study skills, problem solving skills and self-confidence.  

Duties and Responsibilities
Implement pre and post assessment tools evaluating essential skill competencies
Develop and facilitate activities in areas that contribute to student portfolios including, but not limited to:  
Liaise with industry credit coordinators and third party certification instructors.
Liaise with businesses, community organizations and service providers to establish and set-up job shadow and/or work experience placements.
Provide one-on-one student support related to life, student and employment skills including job coach support and monitoring.

Education
The minimum educational qualification for this position is an Educational Assistant certificate.  
In addition, individuals who have a degree in the social sciences will also be well equipped to perform this role.

Experience
The minimum experience required is two years working with adults experiencing multiple barriers, facilitating groups and providing coaching and support for students.
Experience working in cross-cultural learning environment or an educational setting is an asset.
