Under the direction of the Nurse in Charge, the Primary Care Nurse with Additional Authorized Practice (AAP) is required to provide primary care nursing services, including 24 hours emergency services to the community of Montreal Lake Cree Nation; plans and carries out a Community Health Nursing program in conjunction with the MLCN Nursing Program objectives, guidelines procedures and policies, and the needs of the community; provides a nursing treatment service to the community; advises the Nurse in Charge on matter relating to nursing; maintain liaison with the Band Administration and the community; and perform other duties as delegated by Nurse in Charge.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Primary Care Services:
Is responsible to act in a professional manner, to be accountable for his/her own practice, and to maintain competence (knowledge, skill, judgement) in all aspects of his/her nursing practice.Works collaboratively with other members of the health care team members.Appropriately utilizes the SRNA Clinical Tools and the Northern Nursing Specialty Practice Documents in addressing limited medical disorders for the client.Demonstrates accountability for client care decisions made within his/her practice.Performs a thorough physical examination of the client to determine requirements for outpatient treatment or determine whether medical attention is necessary following the SRNA Clinical Decision Tools and Northern Nursing Specialty Practice Documents.Co-ordinates services and care with the patient to ensure continuity and follow-up.Referring clients who require medical or dental care and arranging for their attendance at physicians or dental clinics.Completes a comprehensive documentation using SOAP charting.Complies with all relevant legislation, code of ethics, regulations, policies and procedures.Shares expertise and experience with colleagues, interdisciplinary groups and partners.
