Description

Responsible for: the effective management of City-owned parks, facilities, cemeteries, green spaces & recreation programs. This position will perform the following duties: formulate policies & procedures for the planning, development, maintenance and operation of the Parks & Recreation Department; direct the selection, supervision, appraisal and discipline and ensure training of staff; Co-ordinate the planning, design & construction of parks & recreation facilities; Recommend & supervise any projects to be carried out by contract; Direct the preparation of the annual Operating, Capital and Equipment Budgets and control expenditures on projects and programs; Implement park management & maintenance practices; Manage the accurate maintenance of records; Prepare reports for the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board and City Council; Ensure the preparation of quarterly reports on the progress of current programs and projects; Attend all meetings of City Council; Organize, plan & direct the logistics of major City events.
Qualified candidates will have a Degree in Public Administration, Business Administration or Recreation Administration including a minimum of 5 years municipal experience or a combination of experience, education and demonstrated skills & abilities. Candidates will also possess: valid Class 5 drivers license; Ability to prepare detailed operating, capital and equipment budgets and monitor and analyse expenditures; Ability to communicate effectively to the general public, staff and City Council; Ability to effectively supervise, direct and evaluate employees, demonstrate strong leadership skills and motivate employees.
