Description

Westmoreland Coal Company, Canada currently has a position available for a permanent, full-time Safety Manager at the Estevan Mine. This position is responsible for the comprehensive loss control program involving all aspects of industrial safety, accident and claims investigations. This position has supervisory responsibilities over other employees.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include a wide range of activities including, but not limited to:
- Develop a safe working culture throughout the mine, managing safety programs and guiding leadership on implementation of safety programs
- Search for opportunities to improve safety performance, and provide clear and frequent communication to all employees on safety programs, safety performance and company policies and procedures for safety
- Provide leadership to achieve organizational goals and objectives
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory bodies and standards
- Conduct or coordinate safety related training
- Develop and manage the safety budget
- Ensure complete and accurate files of safety related documentation
- Assume other duties and responsibilities, as required, in response to changing circumstances and physical and economic environment of the Mine and the Company.

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Business Administration, Risk Management or a related field is preferred.
- Minimum 10 years of related work experience.
- Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
- Supervisory experience preferred
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite and safety management systems
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
