Nature and Scope:
To provide competent, holistic care to clients of all ages.
Responsibilities and Duties
Medication:
-Dispense medication at scheduled times and randomly throughout the day.
-Obtain medication history on admission and reconcile medications.
-Ensure controlled medications are counted, stored and ordered from pharmacy prn.
-Follow standing orders as per facility protocol.
-Reporting and tracking medication issues.
-Obtain and review all medical history forms during admissions, and prioritize health issues.
-Provide proper documentation for medication when patients transfer to another facility.
-On discharge, reconcile medications and personal belongings to clients.
Client Care:
-Monitor vital signs.
-Information that is relevant to client care at Thorpe.
-Provide education to clients regarding health and other medical issues;
-Book doctor appointments when appropriate, transfer paperwork to the appropriate doctor, and ensure there are follow-up appointments.
-Communicate medical information to counsellors by email or in person.
-Provide referrals as necessary.
-Work closely with Nurse Practitioner regarding concerns brought up by client.
-Document client case notes, special permissions, etc.
Qualifications, Experience and Skills
-Practical Nurse Diploma from a recognized post-secondary practical nurse program
-Permanent, valid practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta
-Must be willing to work full scope of practice (including IM/SC)
-Experience in an addiction centre preferred
