Description

Chinook Regional Library, which is headquartered in Swift Current, SK, provides public library services to 31 vibrant rural communities [regional population 47,337] throughout the native prairie grasslands and scenic Cypress Hills of southwestern Saskatchewan.  In preparation for succession planning, the Hiring Committee of the Regional Executive Board is accepting applications for the next Chinook Regional Library Director.

Chinook Regional Library's vibrance and noticeable public presence have been achieved primarily through inclusiveness and community engagement.  We are very innovative and had a new pop-up library at the local Farmer's Market this summer, we have makerspace activities for all ages and abilities available in all our branches, we host hilarious puppet shows for everyone to enjoy, we have senior outreach programs, we strongly support literacy programs, and we want our next Director to continue to make our public libraries essential and exciting social spaces in our communities.  Leadership, vision, creativity and passion are important characteristics of our next Director.  

Qualifications:  
-graduate degree in librarianship from an ALA accredited program;
-several years of recent public library managerial experience;
-strong financial background;
-valid driver's license; criminal record check.

Typical Duties:  
-responsible for strategic planning and collection development for the region;
-assists the board with budgeting, policy formation, public relations and advocacy;
-liaises with other regional and municipal library directors to provide a single integrated public library system within the province;
-hires, trains, supervises, schedules and monitors the performance of library staff.
