Description

The SWIS (Settlement Worker in Schools) Worker is responsible to the Settlement Services Manager for coordination of essential services, educational programs and for the delivery of orientation services to refugee and immigrant students and their families with the aim of facilitating their integration into the school system. The position is also responsible for the coordination of cross cultural and anti-racism education/activities for school personnel and non-immigrant students.

This position requires the knowledge and awareness of the challenges common to refugee/immigrant youth.  Requirements will also include knowledge of the settlement process (orientation, adaptation, integration), the demonstrated ability to relate to youth and families undergoing high degrees of stress and the aptitude to handle high stress and emotionally demanding work environments. Knowledge of the environment and philosophy/values of local and rural public & catholic school systems as well as the needs of immigrant/refugee and community resources in a local and rural setting is also essential. Strong knowledge and familiarity with South Central Saskatchewan will be considered a major asset.
    
Educational Requirements:
-Bachelor's Degree or Post-Secondary Diploma in Human/Social/Youth Services.  A combination of relevant education and directly related experience to the job requirements may also be considered.
