Job Description: Under the direction of the Manager of Environmental Health and the Medical Health Officer, the Public Health Inspector delivers a wide variety of environmental, public health and health promotion programs through consultation, education, inspection and enforcement programs within an assigned geographical area. Established programs deal with health hazards in buildings, water and sewage disposal systems, food premises and enforcement of tobacco control legislation. The Public Health Inspector is also required to enforce The Plumbing Regulations and The Private Sewage Works Regulations and must be able to interpret and apply legislation, provide consultation services to the public and contractors and to conduct on-site inspections at construction sites.
To qualify you will possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities:
    Current certification with the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors;
    A Bachelors Degree in Environmental Health;
    A valid Saskatchewan class 5 drivers licence or equivalent;
    Understanding of current northern aboriginal health issues and experience working in a cross-cultural context;
    Knowledge of the principles of environmental health and application, interpretation and administration of appropriate legislation under The Public Health Act, 1994 and The Tobacco Control Act;
    Ability to plan prioritize and complete work assignments;
    Ability to utilize (calibrate, operate, service and maintain) field test kits and test equipment commonly used in environmental health programs;
    Ability to utilize standard software programs to perform word processing, email, inspections, etc.
