Responsibilities:
1.Practicing food safety when preparing and storing food and cleaning supplies
2.Cleaning childcare and Caf kitchen carts, dishes and food storage areas according to Public Health Standards
3.Handling stock and organizing food in designated areas upon delivery and while rotating to maintain maximum freshness
4.Maintaining accurate ordering sheets, stock lists and communicating needs to the Director of Food Services on a weekly basis
5.Preparing healthy meals and snack options for the YMCA Caf customers
6.Providing professional and high quality customer service at the downtown YMCA Caf
7.Preparing healthy and age appropriate meals and snacks for the childcare centers according to the posted 8 week menu
8.Ability to make quick decisions and judgement regarding product shortages and improvise appropriately
9.Working cohesively with colleagues to maximize efficiency and work as a team
10.Having the flexibility to work in any of the YMCA locations. Accepting the possibility of changing assigned working hours and locations depending on the coverage needed.
11.Comply with all YMCA policies and procedures (YMCA Child Protection, Clean Culture, Food Safe Level 1)
12.Accept any other duties as required by the Director of Food Services
Qualifications:
- Education: Post secondary an asset but not required
- Class 5 License
- Applicant must have the ability to maintain a food safe kitchen and practices at all times. The applicant must be able to make quick decisions regarding product shortages(ability to improvise)
- Professional and Other Certification: Professional Cooking Certification an asset but not required. Food Safe Level 1 Certification required and renewed every three years.
- Other: Experience working in a commercial kitchen an asset but not required. Customer service experience an asset.
Physical requirements: The ability to lift fifty pounds when stock arrives. The physical stamina to work an eight hour day.
