This position is a permanent (10 month) part-time position of 6.5 hours per school days commencing November 1, 2018 or on a date mutually agreeable between the successful candidate and hiring managers. Days of work will alternate between the Kamsack Comprehensive Institute and Victoria School and the work schedule will be from 8:30 to 3:30 with a scheduled 30 minute lunch break. Rest periods will be scheduled in accordance with AP 403 Appendix B - Rest Periods.
Qualifications include Minimum Grade 12 or equivalent; experience and/or training working with at-risk youth; experience working with First Nations Youth and a working knowledge of the First Nations culture; demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment, possess good communication skills and has demonstrated ability to network with First Nations communities.
Duties are conduct home visits as required; create opportunities for First Nations cultural activities such as beading and drumming; liaison with families to support students in the schools; provide transportation to students unable to arrive to school for exams; work closely with the staff of the KCI and Victoria School to monitor student attendance; promote cultural awareness, counseling, mediation and other duties as outlined in Administrative Procedure 461 - Aboriginal Community Worker: Role and Responsibilities and other duties as assigned by the Principals.
Salary: The successful candidate will be paid on a monthly basis at an hourly rate from $17.09 - $29.29 plus applicable vacation pay.
