Responsibilities:
- Maintenance of kitchen, food supply and menu planning
- Cleaning of kitchen, living room area, bathrooms and client rooms (after client is discharged)
Confidentiality:
- Maintain confidentiality regarding the residents, staff and council business matters
Duties:
- Cook meals for clients and children in the shelter (lunch and supper)
- Bake snacks for clients and children, and for childcare programs
- Keep inventory of groceries and food items, keep grocery list updated, shopping for groceries
- Maintain and clean kitchen appliances (stove, microwave, fridge and dishwasher, counters and cupboards at all times
- Maintain and clean freezers and pantry
- Maintain and clean recycle and garbage bins (empty when needed)
- Cook and bake with clients, teach clients basic cooking skills when needed
- Menu planning for two weeks in advance, ensuring Canada Food Guide requirements
- Maintain good communication with shelter staff and childcare worker
Requirements:
- Grade 12 with some computer knowledge and cooking experience
- Food Safety Handler's Certificate
- WHIMIS and First Aid (can be provided on the job)
- Able to pass a vulnerable sector criminal record check
- Valid Class 5 driver's license
- Understand and respect the rules of confidentiality
- Good communication skills
- Be a positive role model
- Work well with coworkers in a team setting
Hours of work:
30 hours/week (P/T)
This is a term position replacing an employee leave. Selected candidate will be given adequate notice prior to contract end date.
