Description

The Saskatchewan Cancer Agency is seeking an experienced Legal Counsel professional. Reporting to the Vice President, Corporate Services the successful applicant will provide leadership and recommendations to the Agencys executive and departments on legal matters including; contract preparation, physician discipline and medical staff bylaws, board governance, privacy, risk management and other related matters. In addition, this role may provide support in the area of employee or labour relations. The successful applicant will represent the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency at legal proceedings, administrative hearings, civil litigation and judicial review applications.

Specific Accountabilities
Develop, negotiate, implement, monitor and provide timely renewal of all Agency contracts. Provide mentorship, development, direction and evaluation to the Privacy Officer position.  Anticipate/monitor changes to legislation (Acts, Regulations, Orders in Council, Ministerial Directives, etc.). Provide General Counsel for all aspects of Governance including General Bylaws and Medical Staff Bylaws. Represent the Agency regarding general litigation, advice on access to information requests, and advice to other departments as assigned. Provide general legal advice to the SCA Board. Represent the Agency regarding civil, malpractice or other related litigation as well as provide general advice with respect to all legal issues arising from Risk Management and the management of claims. Provide general advice and representation to Medical Staff Affairs including physician discipline, Medical Staff Bylaw interpretation and physician contract preparation and review.
Qualifications
Bachelor Degree from an accredited school of law
Membership, or eligibility for membership, with the Law Society of Saskatchewan
5 years related experience in contract management, risk management, privacy laws and employment law including a strong working knowledge of all legal processes.
