Radius is seeking a Family Literacy program leader for our Keys to Cooking program. This requires approximately 8 hours per week including 4 hours of program delivery on Wednesday evenings 4:00 8:00 p.m. The program runs in 6-week blocks from November 2018 to May 2019.
The Program Leader will:
-Develop learning content to meet program and participant interests in keeping with best practices for Family Literacy programs
-Facilitate literacy curriculum for parents/caregivers and children (ages newborn-16) focused on essential family literacy program components of Talk, Read, Play, Sing, to:
o encourage families to plan and prepare healthy meals together to develop literacy and numeracy of children and youth
o enhance family health due to increased healthy food choices and food safety knowledge
o promote family literacy by introducing strategies for reading, writing and numeracy related to food planning, preparation and sharing family meals, and;
o promote sharing of cultural practices and traditions around food among newcomers, indigenous people and settler descendants.
-Schedule special events including speakers, storytellers and/or knowledge keepers
-Evaluate the program based on participant feedback, other data and anecdotal information collection, as required by Radius.
Qualifications for this position include:
-B. Ed (or a combination of related education and experience in a learning environment) with a minimum of one year of relevant work experience
-Experience in a group cooking environment; Food Safe Level I preferred
-Knowledge of family literacy, community settings, and diverse populations
-Computer skills (MS Word and Internet)
-Clear Vulnerable Sector and acceptable Criminal Record Check prior to employment
