JOB OVERVIEW: This is a full time position.
EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATOR-Assistant
General Responsibilities:
Develop a program based on: observation, developmental need of the children, interests of the children, community resources
use a variety of teaching/instruction strategies to support learning during play and small-group activities
identify and respond to learning opportunities/ teachable moments
choose/provide materials with properties that are related to the child's explorations in the indoor and outdoor environment based on the Play and Exploration model
Document observations using a range of methods (e.g., notes, photos, videos)
Assess and interpret developmental stage of children
Observe the children's play and interactions; Interpret observations
Identify strategies to further promote cognitive development
Determine language ability according to age and stage of development
model a positive attitude towards diversity (e.g., a) family, cultural, special needs);
be aware of how transition times affect the child
facilitate children in the planning and follow-through of activities
structure the environment and activities around creative learning
provide open-ended activities with varied stimulating materials
facilitate children's problem-solving skills
set up the environment to promote creative development
provide activities that enable the children to express their creativity;
demonstrate creativity, spontaneity and flexibility
Applicants will require the following:
Early Childhood Education Certification I, II, or III
Criminal Record check including a vulnerable sector check
Valid First Aid & CPR certificate
Previous experience in a child care setting
Credentials (certificates, licences, memberships, courses, etc.)
- First Aid Certificate
- Early Childhood Education Assistant Certificate
- Early Childhood Education Diploma or Degree
Security and Safety
- Criminal record check (abstract)
- Child abuse registry check
- Child welfare check
