The Canadian Macromolecular Crystallography Facility (CMCF) is an umbrella facility which operates two beamlines, 08ID-1 and 08B1-1, at the CLSI. Together, both beamlines enable high-resolution structural studies of proteins, nucleic acids, and other macromolecules, satisfying the requirements of the most challenging and diverse crystallographic experiments. The CMCF is a unique national facility that supports Canadian macromolecular crystallography labs.
Responsibilities:
- Provides user support to general users, beamteam members, fee-for-service clients, and CLS staff. Assists with the following functions:
o Beamline and endstation setup
o Assists with sample preparation and trains users on how to operate beamline
o User support beyond normal working hours in accordance with established CLS procedures
o Supervise and support users to ensure that they are able to perform their scientific experiments in an effective manner
- Analyzes and solves beamline or technical problems by developing recommendations.
- Undertakes preventative maintenance following standard procedures or under the guidance of the supervisor.
- Helps maintain software at beamlines, and to define software specifications.
Qualifications:
- All applicants are expected to have successfully completed a Masters of Science in a scientific discipline related to the position (engineering or core sciences)
- A minimum of two (2) years of related experience in a synchrotron or scientific laboratory
- Experience in X-ray crystallography is a requirement for this position
