The Water Treatment Plant Operator is a program support position that is supervised on a regular basis by the Public Works Supervisor, with overall accountability to Public Works Manager. This position is to operate all aspects of the water treatment plant to ensure the safe treatment of potable water for distribution.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Possess Water & Waste Water Certificates and within such certification through the Provincial Certificate Board for Water Facilities.
- Possess the ability to perform minor maintenance task on equipment as well as being able to provide preventative maintenance techniques for major maintenance tasks.
- Be willing and able to perform physical labor during the course of duties.
- Be able to complete a daily/weekly log of activities.
- Possess excellent time management skills.
- Be aware of safety standards for equipment and water quality necessary when operating band equipment and/or vehicles.
- Be of a pleasant, professional manner as well as being punctual, reliable, and ensure that confidential matters remain confidential.
- Possess excellent oral and written communication skills to effectively deal with and maintain a positive relationship with fellow employees, tenants, and the general membership.
- Possess the ability to follow policy, take direction and work with minimum supervision.
- Be willing to work flexible hours and be on call in case of emergencies.
- Possess a valid drivers license and a reliable vehicle would be an asset.

- Read recording instruments to measure output and consumption levels, bacterial content, chlorine and fluoride levels
- Perform maintenance and repairs to plant machinery or equipment
- Patrol plant to check pumps, motors, filters, chlorinators and other plant equipment
- Operate and monitor computerized control systems and related equipment to regulate the treatment and distribution of water
- Monitor and inspect plant equipment and systems to detect equipment malfunctioning and to ensure plant systems are operating normally
- Monitor and read recording instruments to detect equipment malfunctions and ensure plant systems and equipment are operating within prescribed limits
