Description

Responsibilities include:
1. Provide individual and/or group supplemental language support and development for newcomer and international students in post-secondary programs.
2. Plan and deliver learning activities that reflect the values, beliefs, needs and contributions of a culturally diverse community.
3. Be reflective of and responsible to the accommodation of special learning needs including equity groups and diverse learners.
4. Assist students in areas of personal, academic and career development.
5. Engage students in learning activities designed to strengthen ties to work and/or career development.
6. Develop and deliver study skills and learning strategy instruction in response to individual and group needs.
7. Work cooperatively within a multidisciplinary team to implement strategies that help with student learning and career development.
8. Work with academic program heads and instructors to monitor and support in-class
instructional activities and to promote early identification of student academic issues.
9. Assist students in accessing community and cultural support, provide referrals internal and external to Saskatchewan Polytechnic.
10. Record statistics for accountability purposes.

Qualifications include:
1. Bachelor degree in a field related to English language acquisition plus CERTESL certification or industry-recognized equivalent.
2. Two years of recent and relevant experience teaching English as a second language and preferably providing adult education.
3. Working knowledge of MS office, software, internet programs, technology applications and industry trends pertaining to teaching ESL.
4. Demonstrated competence in instructing conversational and academic oral English language skills.
5. Demonstrated ability to work within a multidisciplinary team to implement strategies that help with student learning and success.
6. Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
7. Demonstrates valuing diversity.
