Description

Southeast Newcomer Services is accepting applications for the position of Information Services Advisor.  The Centre will provide a safe and hospitable environment for the clients to obtain information and service to assist in their settlement and integration into southeast Saskatchewan. The Information Services Advisor will be principally responsible for providing services to newcomers and operating the centre on a day to day basis.

Duties:
- Answer general questions from newcomers
- Direct and assist newcomers in accessing relevant programs and services
- Ensure that any personal information remains confidential
- Interview newcomers to obtain a case history and background information
- Refer eligible clients to appropriate settlement service providers or mainstream agency services within the region based on area of needs
- Assist with grant proposal applications as needed
- Complete media releases, design of material and participate in on-air interviews; complete regular articles for the local newspapers & newsletters
- Provide support or deliver presentations to interested groups
OUALIFICATIONS
- Respect and sensitivity to the needs of newcomers
- Ability to handle competing demands and prioritize for maximum efficiency
- Demonstrated experience in the use of computer applications, specifically in the use of email, word processing, spreadsheet, & web based applications.
- Demonstrated communication skills, including written & oral, and effective public relations skills
- Ability to deal with confidential material & matters

Education/Experience:
- A certificate, diploma, or degree in a human services field of training
- 1 year demonstrated experience in working with people from diverse cultural groups in a cross-cultural setting
- Must possess a valid driver's license, reliable transportation & be willing to travel
- Must be bondable-a Police Check under vulnerable persons is required
